Spring semester, P’ton Adult School

Registration is under way for the spring 2011 semester at the Princeton Adult School.
Offerings this year range from opera and constitutional law to yoga and gourmet cooking, and the always popular movie series.
In addition, there are more than 100 non-credit online courses, ranging from Web page design to genealogy basics.
Students may register online or by mail. In-person registration is required for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) on Thursday evening, Jan. 20, at Princeton High School Classes, which are held Tuesday and Thursday evening at Princeton High School and other local venues beginning Feb. 1.
Highlights this semester include "From Sea to Table," a cooking course led by three of Princeton’s premier chefs, and a close look at the notable architecture on the Princeton University campus. The list of new courses also includes "Voices of Diverse Women Writers," an examination of the range of content and expression in literature by women, and an introduction to Oriental and Persian Rugs and Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Masterpieces at the Princeton Art Museum.
There are also seven cooking courses, including "Staples of Indian Cuisine."
Online offerings include technology courses, business courses and personal and professional development courses.
The Adult School also continues to offer such old favorites as "Investment Basics," five courses in digital photography, Hatha- and Spanda- and Iyengar yoga, ballroom dancing, guitar and a memoir writing workshop.
"Every year we aim for the proverbial something for everybody," said Princeton Adult School president Dr. Mark Branon, "and I think we’re closer than ever. We have more than a dozen new courses ranging from cerebral to recreational. We’re really excited about our lecture series on the Victorians, the range of studio art courses, and our financial planning classes, which address a variety of current concerns.
"We also have two special one-semester language courses, ‘Italian for Travelers’ and ‘Spanish for Travelers.’ In addition, our very popular foreign language program, includes all the usual ones plus Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Russian. Our ESOL program includes advanced courses in pronunciation and conversation. And our daytime and weekend exercise and fitness classes at the CAN DO state-of-the-art Fitness Center in Forrestal Village, which include child care, are very popular."
The diverse course listing for the upcoming semester includes 14 lecture courses, the movie series, 29 foreign language courses, 19 studio arts workshops, 32 exercise fitness and recreation activities, six studio music classes, seven cooking courses, 19 courses listed under hobbies and special skills, five business and professional courses and computer courses.
Subjects range from professional-level courses such as "How to Patent and Profit from Your Invention," to those tailored to individual needs, including how to buy and stage a home, tai-chi, and beginning and continuing piano for adults.
Most classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Princeton High School beginning Feb. 1 and 3 Registration online and by mail is already in progress. Those who have not received a catalog can obtain a copy at any area public library.
