A vigil service for 17-year-old Chris Dhume, who died from meningitis last week, has been moved from Monday, Jan. 31, to Tuesday, Feb. 8, Matawan Regional High School (MRHS) Principal Michele Ruscavage said Monday.

Dhume, a Cliffwood resident and a senior at Matawan Regional High School (MRHS), passed away Jan. 22 from bacterial meningitis at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

The candlelight vigil, organized by faculty and students, will take place in the MRHS gym at 7 p.m.

The Spotlight Players are holding auditions for “5 Minutes to Curtain,” a backstage musical montage of favorite hits, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 5 at the the First Presbyterian Church on Route 34 north in Matawan, next to the Buttonwood Manor. Casting is for ages 10 and up with many parts for teens and adults. Bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided.

The English Speaking Union, Monmouth County Branch, will present a lecture recital of the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at Christ Episcopal Church, 90 Kings Highway, Middletown. The presenter and lecturer is Wilbur Lewis, who will be accompanied at the piano by Richard T. Biernacki, branch president. Donations benefit the scholarship work of the ESU. The cost is $25 for branch members and $30 for nonmembers. A reception with beverages and appetizers will follow.

The Junior Board of the Ronald Mc- Donald House (RMH) of Long Branch will host a Polar Bear Plunge on Feb. 5 at the Sea Bright Public Municipal Beach (behind the Sea Bright Firehouse). Registration will be held at 11 a.m. at Sea Bright Pizza, 1066 OceanAve. The fee is $30, and pledges will be accepted (cash/checks made payable to Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch). The plunge starts at 1 p.m., after which participants are invited back to Sea Bright Pizza for refreshments and to warm up. Tshirts and bracelets will also be sold.
