Scouts have chance to design new patch

The Lakewood BlueClaws baseball team is looking for local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to design a patch that will be given out to scouts at BlueClaws scout nights this year.

“In 10 years we have given out 10 different scout patches,” BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown said. “As we start our second decade, we are opening it up to the scouts themselves.”

Submissions will be accepted until March 11. The BlueClaws will choose the finalists and voting will occur on the Blue- Claws’ official Facebook page until March 25.

The winning scout will receive a ceremonial first pitch at their scout night in 2011, a meet and greet with a BlueClaws player, and have their patch be given out to the approximately 5,000 scouts that come out in 2011, according to a press release. Interested scouts can download a form at the BlueClaws’website and fill in the circle, using 10 colors or less. The BlueClaws will adjust the patches with the proper logos. All forms must be returned to Pete Walsifer, Scout Patch Contest, 2 Stadium Way, Lakewood, NJ 08701

Forms must include the name of the scout’s pack or troop as well as the name of the scout.

Scouts who enter must be a member of a pack or troop that has booked its 2011 Blue- Claws outing. The BlueClaws will host six Scout Nights in 2011, two of which (July 26 and Aug. 8) are Scout Night Sleepovers, where scouts camp out on the field after the game.
