Pennington Quality Market will hold its 17th annual “Fight Cancer Day” on April 28 from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
On this special day PQM will join forces with The American Cancer Society and donate 5 percent of its total sales to the Central Jersey Division of the American Cancer Society.
The donation will be used to further cancer research, public education and patient services. Over the past 16 years Pennington Market has contributed a total of $182,215 to the ACS.
Throughout the day “Celebrity Baggers” — local community leaders, public officials and various local celebrities — donate their time and efforts to bag groceries in support of the fight against cancer.
Entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. with the Mummertime Musicians performing through 5 p.m.
PJ will create fanciful balloon creations extraordinaire.
Stiltman Wayne will entertain from 10 feet and children can have their faces painted. WPST will be set up for a live remote radio broadcast inside PQM.
In addition to a full schedule of entertainment, free health screenings and life-saving advice will be provided by Capital Health and The American Cancer Society.
There will be plenty to eat with free samples throughout the store, including dishes prepared by the chefs of Pennington Quality Market’s Catered Cuisine. Shoppers also can enjoy the taste of a Boar’s Head hot dog and a Coke for $1 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with all proceeds going to fight cancer.
The Fight Cancer Day Raffle offers an assortment of prizes, donated by local area merchants — including Amber Spa, Artful Beads Studio & Workshop, Craft Cleaners, Cream King, Freedman’s Jewelers, Hopewell Buy Rite, Hopewell Valley Car Wash, Kuppek Landscaping, Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio, Party Things, PEAC Health & Fitness, Pennington Bagel Experience, Pennington Dance, Pennington Hardware, Potters Alley, Shear Hair Dezigns, Stony Brook Gardens, T.J.’s Trattoria & Pizzeria, The Front Porch, Uncle Ed’s Creamery, and Vito’s Pizza.
Raffle tickets are available for purchase at the market. All proceeds will be added to the total amount raised.
PQM also is a sponsor of the 1st Relay for Life of Pennington/Hopewell, to be held April 29-30 at The Pennington School. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in the community a chance to celebrate the lives of survivors (who have battled cancer), remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease.
At the Relay, teams will gather at The Pennington School and take turns walking or running around the track. There will be live entertainment and activities.
