Myles Cavanaugh, Robert Beck, Paul Matthews, Suzanne Douglass, Ty Hodanish, James Feehan, Tom Chesar, Joseph Barrett, Irma Fuhr and David Hahn are among the many artists who have submitted poster art to benefit the 2011 Shad Fest Art Scholarship Fund.
Original posters will be auctioned live May 1, the second day of the Lambertville Shad Festival, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Recreation Room, 31 N. Union St. Register to bid by 2 p.m..
Mr. Cavanaugh, of Lambertville, who was one of the first scholarship recipients in 1992, has submitted an original painting, “Shad Fisherman,” painted in oil on panel and on one of the larger size posters, 18 by 28 inches. Depicting the “iconic scene witnessed by anyone passing over the free bridge this time of year, a lonely boat (is shown) adrift in the blue early morning light hoping for the catch of the day.”
Donations of original poster art include some newcomers — Daniel John Gadd, Anne Kullaf, Mark Pullen, Chad Lassin, Graham Preston and Gary Giordano and some repeat contributors and artists, such as Judy Henn, Luiz Vilela, Jane Gilday, W. Carl Burger, Carol Sanzalone and Scott MacNeill. J. Stacy Rogers of Lambertville and John Schmidtberger of Upper Black Eddy, Pa. are also contributing.
Last year the Fund awarded $30,000 in scholarship money to high school students pursuing a career in the arts (including music) from South Hunterdon and New Hope/Solebury high school sending districts.
Preview all of the posters starting Friday at 7 p.m. and through to Sunday around 1 p.m., when the break-down to prepare for the live auction begins.
The artists reception will be held April 29 from 7-9 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. All are invited. Light refreshments will be available.
The exhibit continues April 30, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and May 1, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Register to bid anytime during the weekend. Live Auction begins at 3 p.m. Sunday. Phone and absentee bids will be accepted.
