The U12 Cyclones girls soccer team has put Millstone on the map for state soccer rankings.
The team started the season ranked 86 out of 101 teams and moved up to 38 as a result of the last two tournaments. The Jersey Area Girls Soccer (JAGS) Olympic League team finished the season with a 3-3- 2 record and winning the consolation state cup premier bracket, according to team spokesperson Jenn Archer.
“[Their record] was impressive, as there were many injuries this season and they had to play many games with little to no subs,” Archer said.
The Cyclones are Millstone’s Alyssa Caba, Sydney Cummings, Ali and Nikki DeSalvatore, Katie DiFrancesco, Alexa Guadagno, Mallory Keefe, Sydney Regina and Alyssa Sloane; East Windsor’s Jess Archer, Abby Debebe and Erica Martins; Freehold’s Katie Mauro, and Allentown’s Carly Roche. The team is coached by Rocco Regina and Jeff Sloane and trained by Rodrigo Castro.
Scoring and assisting for the Cyclones in the season and state cup games were Jess Archer with four goals and four assists, Erica Martins with four goals and three assists, Sydney Cummings with four goals, Carly Roche with three goals and three assists, Sydney Regina with three goals and two assists, Alyssa Sloane with two goals and two assists, Katie Mauro with two goals, and Alexa Guadagno scored a goal.
The Cyclones added three new players to their roster — Manalapan’s Ashlyn Hovan and East Windsor’s Megan Henderson and Taylor Mastropasqua — to help make the team stronger as they competed in the West Windsor Sunburst Tournament on June 4-5. They won the championship title. Goalie Ali DeSalvatore shut out scoring in all four games. Scoring and assisting for the Cyclones in this tournament were Jess Archer with six goals and a hat trick in the second game, Nikki De- Salvatore with four goals and one assist, Megan Henderson with three goals and one assist, Sydney Regina with two goals and three assists, and Alyssa Sloane with two goals and one assist. Ashlyn Hovan scored the team’s firstever header goal. Taylor Mastropasqua and KatieMauro added three assists each. Carly Roche, Erica Martins and Sydney Cummings all had an assist, and the defensive
play of Katie DiFrancesco, Alyssa Caba, Mallory Keefe andAbby Debebe helped the team to victory.
The Cyclones also competed in the Jags Soccer Tournament on June 18-19, winning its bracket and taking second place in the final game against an academy team. The team was happy to have Alexa Guadagno back in action after she broke her arm in an earlier state cup game, and guest player Allison Klei, of Lawrence, helped out. The Cyclones are gearing up for one more local competitive soccer tournament, set for July 9-10. The team seeks guest players for this tournament as well as players to complete the U13 fall roster.
