Fecher tapped for new post in Howell

HOWELL — Steven Fecher, a confidential aide to the township manager, has been named Howell’s new director of community relations.

According to a job description provided by the township, the director of community relations will work with the public to resolve issues and provide information to residents.

In addition, the director will maintain a database of citizens’ concerns and direct them to the proper personnel when applicable.

The director will also be expected to independently research and coordinate responses to certain citizen complaints and inquiries.

Under the direction of the township manager, the director of community relations will also be expected to organize and implement all of Howell’s special events

At its meeting on Oct. 4, the Township Council voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance which set the salary for the director of community relations between $65,000 and $85,000.

Fecher had been working as the confidential assistant to Township Manager Helene Schlegel. The move represents little more than a title change for Fecher, Schlegel said, adding that he will continue to report to her because his new position falls under the purview of the manager’s office.
