STEVEN KIRSHBLUM, M.D. ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE ACADEMY OF SPINAL CORD INJURY PROFESIONALS

(www.academyscipro.org). ASCIP is a national, non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the education, research, advocacy and quality of care delivered to persons with spinal cord impairment.
“While advancements in research and medical treatments have improved survival rates among individuals with spinal cord injuries, we are continually challenged to provide the highest level of ongoing care to maintain and improve the quality of life for SCI patients,” said Dr. Kirshblum, who also serves as the co-director of the Northern New Jersey Spinal Cord Injury Model System.
ASCIP is a unique interdisciplinary organization comprised of 4 professional sections — American Paraplegia Society (APS), Association of Spinal Cord Injury Nurses (ASCIN), Psychologists and Social Workers (PSW) and Therapy Leadership Council (TLC) n that work together to advance the field of spinal cord injury care and treatment.
Dr. Kirshblum has been internationally recognized for his clinical, research and academic work in the field of spinal cord injury medicine and is the author of numerous articles and publications, including a major textbook and children’s book on spinal cord injury.
