Mary S. Duda Veres

Mrs. Veres, 88, of Monroe Township, died Dec. 23, 2011, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she had lived in Woodhaven, N.Y., and in South River for many years before moving to Monroe Township in 2002. She and her husband were the owners of Mary and Paul’s Religious Gift Shop on Main Street in South River for 37 years and had also operated M.P. Gifts, an online religious gift store. Mrs. Veres had previously coowned and operated a religious goods store in Ridgewood, N.Y., had been a bookkeeper for airline stationers and had worked at various other jobs, which included teaching. She was a communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Monroe Township, and a former communicant of Corpus Christi Church, South River. In addition, she served with the American Red Cross during World War II. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul L. Veres, in May 2009 as well as three sisters, Antoinette Plisich, Margaret Duda and Catherine Sanzi. Surviving are two brothers, John and Joseph Duda, both of Lakewood; many nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church. Interment took place at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y.
