Abstract paintings inform winter journey

“Community” by S.L. Baker “Community” by S.L. Baker Works by abstract artists Mercedes Farrugia and S.L. Baker are featured in a winter exhibit atABstract Expressions Contemporary Art Gallery, Mount Holly. Farrugia, of Howell, creates ethereal abstracts, often evocative of interiors or misty landscapes. Trained in decorative finishing techniques, she operates her own small business of custom painting rooms, furniture and floor cloths and teaching these skills.

Baker, of Lawrenceville, infuses her paintings with Buddhist thought and social and familial concern. Using fingers instead of brushes, she creates paintings that reference compassion and the acceptance of what actually is present in any given circumstance.

The winter exhibit is on view through Feb. 25. A “Meet the Artist” reception will be held on Feb. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m.

ABstract Expressions Contemporary Art Gallery is at 70 High St., Mount Holly. Gallery hours are Friday 1-7 p.m., Saturday noon to 7 p.m., and by appointment.
