Woodbridge’s Colonia High School is sponsoring a “bELieve” 3.0-mile Fun Run/Walk in honor of Avenel resident Eric LeGrand at 10 a.m. April 29 around the streets surrounding the high school, located at 180 East St. The “3.0” represents the number 30, which was LeGrand’s uniform number when he played football for the Colonia Patriots.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the high school track. Streets are subject to close due to the event— which will be held rain or shine— so participants are asked to plan accordingly.
There is a $10 minimum entry free. All proceeds will benefit the Eric LeGrand Believe
Fund. Participants may register up until the day of the walk, either online or in person. Registration forms (one per person, not per family) are available through the school’s main office or website, which can be accessed at www.woodbridge.k12.nj.us/high.html.
For questions or additional information, call the girls physical education office at 732-396-2625 or email patricia.fitzgerald@ woodbridge.k12.nj.us.
Besides playing football for Colonia High School, LeGrand had also played for the Port Reading Saints Pop Warner team. He was a junior at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, in October 2010 when he sustained life-altering injuries as a defensive tackle for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights during a game against theArmy Black Knights — the name of the U.S. Military Academy atWest Point’s athletic teams — at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford.
