Junior and Adult Observers are wanted at the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead’s opening-day festivities.
On May 6, during a 2 p.m. guided tour of the farmstead, Junior Observers will use a handy Check List to find at least 30 different objects in the buildings and on the grounds.
On completion of the tour, Junior Observers will receive a coupon for a soft- serve ice cream cone from Cravings located just up the road from the farmstead.
During the tour, Adult Observers will participate in a “What’s It?” challenge. Many of the objects found at the farmstead “are bewildering and will make you say ‘What’s It?’ You are invited to bring your own ‘What’s It? for possible identification,” said a spokesman.
During the tour everyone can make hand-dipped candles to take home. Print a card on the 1875 hand-printing press and milk “Molly the Cow.”
The Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead consists of a three-story bank barn, full of tools and equipment used by farmers for work and everyday living.
There also is a general store, post office, barbershop, print shop, c.1920 repair shop, and working blacksmith shop. There are two other large barns where visitors will find everything — antique pedal cars, a hearse, tractors and large farming machines.
For more information, visit: www.holcombe-jimison.org.
The farmstead is located on Route 29 just north of Lambertville to the left of the 202 bridge to Pennsylvania — 1606 Daniel Bray Highway.
Look for the banner displaying the 6-foot-tall chicken mascot from the Flemington egg auction. The site is open from May through October on Sundays from 1-4 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-noon and by appointment.
