Accident gave writer time to reflect

About two weeks ago I had an accident that left me out cold on my living room floor with a broken jaw and some other minor injuries. Four days in the hospital and time since then with my jaw wired shut have given me some time to reflect on two things.
First, I am very thankful for the rapid and skilled response by the Hopewell Township police and the Union Rescue squad. They were here in a flash, assessed me carefully, told me what was happening, and carted me out with strong arms and good humor. We are lucky they serve the community in this way.
Second, I got an inside look at our new hospital. Of course, it is a beautiful building with capable physicians. But what struck me was the attention and compassion of all the people who work there, from the RNs and technicians down to the people who bring up the food, clean the floors, and transport you around the building.
The consideration and respect they showed was very impressive. It’s great to have an uplifting facility with all of the best technology, but what really matters is the people who work there.
