North Brunswick’s 2012 Road Program, launched this week, includes nearly $3.2 million in street and utility improvements to 12 municipal roadways.
Roadwork has begun on Miriam Drive, which will undergo base repair, spot curb and driveway apron replacement, mill and overlay, along with storm system upgrades.
Arthur Avenue and Barton Place will follow and be completed reconstructed, including storm system upgrades. The balance of the program includes Clinton Road, Clinton Place and Madison Drive, which will include water system upgrades; Sherwood Boulevard; Upper Brook Drive; and three segments of Kearney Drive. The Kearney Drive segments will also include water system upgrades, Director of Community Development Michael Hritz said.
The schedule, which is weather dependent, includes a series of improvements from now through December.
The Hollywood Street portion of the road program has received a grant from the N.J. Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Program in the amount of $250,000, and should commence later this year.
The mayor and Township Council have been budgeting an average of $3 million per year to maintain and improve the municipal road and utility system, Hritz said. Since 2001, the township has spent more than $25 million repairing more than 85 municipal roads and the associated utility infrastructure covering more than 25 miles.
