A ttending the Princeton Memorial Day weekend parade was truly a great part of the American tradition. Watching our veterans, active-duty personnel, Boy and Girl Scouts, Revolutionary War re-enactors and members of other organizations pass by was great.
However, as a veteran, I became very disturbed about the lack of respect shown to the American flags carried by the color guards as they passed in front of people sitting in chairs, sitting on the curbs, leaning against cars or just standing there. I hope this letter will be a reminder to our citizens, young and old, to get out of the chairs, get up from the curbs, quit leaning. Stand at attention and place your right hand over your heart when the flag passes by.
Please, from this time forward, let us all show the American flag the respect that it is due.
