Seton Hall University (www.shu.edu), one of the country’s leading Catholic universities, is offering high school students an opportunity to step into the world of criminal justice and law enforcement this summer.
The Criminal Justice Institute, a one-week program taking place August 6-10, is part of the University’s Summer Sessions program and is designed for students who are interested in learning about the various roles, functions, and career opportunities in law enforcement and the courts and corrections systems.
The program will include field trips to a police academy and state prison and participants will have an opportunity to meet with various presenters including experienced educators, law enforcement officials and a forensic scientist who will present practical applications and discuss the CSI Effect.
The Criminal Justice Institute will be directed by John M. Paitakes, Ph.D., a Senior Faculty Associate in the Seton Hall University Criminal Justice Program. Dr. Paitakes’ areas of expertise are in probation, parole, corrections, and juvenile delinquency. Dr. Paitakes is the recipient of the Jack A. Mark Award for contributions to the Criminal Justice Discipline and Education in New Jersey awarded by the New Jersey Association of Criminal Justice Educators.
