Finding Mr. Grant
Presented by Maya Richmond, Animal Welfare Association
Everyone wants grant funds to pay for a program or activity.  Yet how do you go about securing a grant? Grants can be great ways to grow an existing program, fund a capital project or afford a new program.  Grants can also be daunting. The funds secured often won’t cover the full cost of a project. They are work. The work doesn’t stop when the check is cashed.
This 90-minute workshop is designed to provide relevant pragmatic information about:
·         Finding & researching foundations that may support your work
·         Identifying what foundations want to support
·         Ensuring you have the right in-house administration & program support to manage the grant
·         Communicating responsibly with the foundation
Finding and securing a suitable grant is like looking for Mr. Right. Think about it, when you are looking to settle down you are meeting someone,  you are learning about their interests,  courting them, and then maybe a pre-nup and ceremony followed by—hopefully—  a long  lasting marriage.
If you follow the steps presented, you will have a better chance at securing grant funds for your animal shelter.
Maya Richmond secured over $346,000 in grant funds in 2011-2012 to support a variety of AWA programs, new programs and capital needs.  She submitted applications ranging from quick 1 page requests for $1000 to multi-page multi-year novels requesting $190,000.  In 2011, AWA received 15 of the 17 grants sought.
