The formal award presentation ceremony for the 2012 Barbara “Foof” Forfar Nursing Scholarship will be held on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. in the main lobby on the Ocean Medical Center campus in Brick Township.
Ocean Medical Center officials and staff, along with the scholarship committee members, award recipients and invited guests are expected to attend the ceremony, which is open to the general public, according to a press release.
The Barbara “Foof” Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund was established on Jan. 15, 2011 and is part of the Ocean Medical Center Foundation family of funds. The fund provides monetary assistance to qualified nurses and nursing students of Ocean Medical Center who desire to continue their formal education in the nursing profession in the form of scholarships, and it awards one (or more) nursing scholarship during September of each year to eligible applicants.
The Barbara “Foof” Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of long-time Point Pleasant resident Barbara Forfar, or “Foof” as she was called by her colleagues, and her 44 years of dedication to the nursing profession with all but three years of her service associated with the Ocean Medical Center or its predecessor hospitals, according to the press release.
The Sept. 19 ceremony will mark the second time in as many years that scholarships have been awarded to Ocean Medical Center employees from the fund.
To qualify for the scholarship, the applicant must be an employee or nursing student at Ocean Medical Center and must be enrolled in a RN program, an upper division program (RN to BSN) or advanced degree program (MSN, PhD) in nursing.
All Ocean Medical Center nurses and nursing students from all OMC practice areas were eligible to apply. The scholarship must be used to supplement tuition, fees, lab costs, books or educational supply expenses.

Forfar Nursing Scholarship award presentation at Ocean Medical Center, Applebee’s of Brick Township has declared Sept. 19 to be “Forfar Scholarship Day.”
Patrons who visit Applebee’s at 52 Brick Plaza throughout the day between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. for lunch, happy hour, dinner, late-night or take-out and present an official “Forfar Scholarship Dining To Donate Certificate” to their server or bartender when ordering, will have 10 percent of their check donated to the Barbara “Foof” Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund.
