Michael Olexa

Mr. Olexa, 42, of Perth Amboy, died Aug. 15, 2012, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division, after a long battle with colon cancer. He was a lifelong Perth Amboy resident. Mr. Olexa was employed by the city of Perth Amboy in the Sanitation and Parks Department for 17 years. He was a member of the Apple Mountain Gun Club and a former member of both the WA-XO-BE Archers archery club and the National Rifle Association. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving are his wife, Angela Sclafani Olexa; a daughter, Sarah Olexa of the Avenel section of Woodbridge; his parents, Michael and Rose Ann (Cannata) Olexa of Lakewood; his in-laws, Guy and Mary Ellen (Hardin) Sclafani of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; a sister and brother-in-law, Melisa and Russ Lefkus of Bayville; six sistersin law and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Joe Orokos of Kendall Park, Guy and Dawn Sclafani of Old Bridge, and Sal and Maria Sclafani of Chesterfield; and six nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Blessed John Paul II Parish at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, followed by burial at Alpine Cemetery, both of Perth Amboy. Arrangements were under the direction of the Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, Perth Amboy.
