Family Movie Day in Millstone Oct. 14

The Millstone Township Foundation for Educational Excellence (MTFEE) will be hosting its second annual Family Movie Day on Oct. 14 at the Millstone Township Performing Arts Center (MPAC), 5 Dawson Court.

The MTFEE is a nonprofit organization devoted to funding grants for items that nurture extraordinary educational experiences for every student in the Millstone Township School District.

To build excitement and get the students involved, the foundation is asking primary and elementary school teachers to poll their students on several popular family-friendly movies. The winning movie will be announced at the MTFEE booth at Millstone Day on Sept. 23 at Frogbridge Day Camp.

Pre-movie kid’s activities, including carnival games, Halloween-themed crafts and games, face painting and tattoos will begin at 1 p.m. The movie will start at 2:30 p.m., and a concession stand will be available for refreshments.

A $5 minimum donation is requested with advanced RSVP, or $6 at the door. Donations will help to provide grant funding for innovative and exciting classroom programs, educational opportunities for students, staff development, and state-of-the-art teaching materials that are beyond the scope of the general school budget.

Families who pre-order tickets online will be entered into a raffle to win either a Family Four Pack Movie Night, which includes four AMC Gold movie passes (which does not have a current release movie restriction, as with other passes), two fountain sodas, and popcorn, or one of four Date Night Packs, which include two AMC Gold movie passes. There will be one winner per family. Only one winner per family will be permitted.

MTFEE operates independently from the school district and replenishes its grant fund exclusively through private donations and its fundraising efforts. The foundation has awarded more than $432,000 in grants to Millstone Township schools since 2002. MTFEE grants, which have been awarded at every grade level and in every discipline, have included Smart Boards, mobile computer and iPad labs, and a rock-climbing wall. MTFEE was the first organization in the district to bring iPads into the classroom in the spring of 2011.
