Shore AC cross-country series begins Sept. 29 at Thompson Park

Shore Athletic Club announced its annual six-week schedule for the traditional Shore AC Cross-Country (SAC XC) League series.

The long-running series, considered one of the most popular cross-country events in New Jersey, will run on six consecutive Saturday mornings beginning on Sept. 29 at a rotating schedule of Monmouth County park courses. Each event will begin at 9 a.m.

The SAC XC League will open at Thompson Park in Middletown Township, on Sept. 29. Then it’s on to Tatum Park, which is also in Middletown, on Oct. 6. Next up will be Wolf Hill Park in Oceanport on Oct. 13. The SAC XC League returns to Thompson Park on Oct. 20, then to Tatum Park on Oct. 27. The SAC XC League concludes at Holmdel Park in Holmdel Township on Nov. 3.

All races are at the 5K distance (3.1 miles). Entry is $7 for individual races or $30 for all six races in the series. Each event will include both individual and team competition. The races are open to men and women of all ages. For further information, send emails to [email protected].

Marc Altenau of Shore AC will once again serve as meet director. Volunteers are invited to assist in all phases of the events.

The annual Shore AC Youth Cross- Country Series is being held Sundays at Holmdel Park. The remaining dates are Sept. 30, Oct. 7, Oct. 14, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28.

Registration for each session will open at 8:30 a.m. on each of these Sundays and the first race will start at 9 a.m.

A course walk will be offered a few minutes after registration opens each week.

Races will be held at varied distances based on age groups.
