pick of the week Footloose

Everyone is invited to “cut loose, footloose, kick off your Sunday shoes” as the Marlboro Community Players proudly presents “Footloose: The Musical.”

Performances of “Footloose” will take place Oct. 12 and 13 at 8 p.m, and Oct. 7 and 14 at 3 p.m. at the Marlboro Memorial Middle School, 71 Nolan Road, Morganville.

The Marlboro Players bring “Footloose” to life in an upbeat stage adaptation based on the 1984 hit movie. When teenager Ren McCormack (Kevin Albanese) and his mom Ethel (Marla Struminger) move from big-city Chicago to small-town Bomont, they are in for a real case of culture shock as they find out that rock music and dancing are illegal. Ren quickly falls for Ariel Moore (Jamian Berkal), a rebellious teenager, who already has a tough boyfriend Chuck (Anthony Copetell) and also happens to be the daughter of the Rev. Shaw Moore (Greg Schumann) who is responsible for keeping Bomont dance-free.

Other cast members include Ariel’s best friends Rusty (Francesca Trerotola), Wendy Jo (Angela Ronan), and Urleen (Carla Ratta), and Ren’s new friends Willard (Mike Drake), Lyle (Tyler Glagola), and Travis (Nathan Ullrich). The Rev. Shaw’s wife, Vi, is played by Nicole Mory.

The show is fun for all ages. Seating is general admission, and all seats are $14 in advance and $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available online at www.marlboroplayers.com. For more information call 732-972-7217.
