The 15th anniversary celebration of the annual Mudslingers Art Show and Sale will take place 1-6 p.m. Nov. 11.
The show will be hosted by Red Bank potter Lauren Bellero in her home/studio at 39 Leroy Place, Red Bank. Every year, a local artist is also invited to participate. This year’s show features artwork by Mike Quon of Fair Haven.
Bellero is an award-winning clay artist whose unique decorative and functional pottery has been shown in galleries throughout the U.S. and in select juried art shows. As a high-school student, Bellero served as an apprentice with Pfaltzgraf Pottery. She later left corporate life to revisit her interest in clay and began what has become a 20- year study of the medium. Her specialty is pit firing, an ancient technique of firing unglazed pots in an earthen kiln. This type of surface treatment results in pottery with a distinct flame-inspired palette and a natural, earthy quality. She also creates one-ofa kind functional glazed ware for everyday use. More information about pit firing and Bellero’s work can be found at her website, mudslingerspottery.net.
Quon, Mudslingers’ featured guest, is a graphic artist best known for his colorful, bold brushstroke style and whimsical depictions of favorite places, everyday objects and architecture. The son of a Disney animator and student of the pop art movement, Quon has had a distinguished career as a graphic designer and illustrator. His artwork can be found in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress and the New York Historical Society, among others. To see more of his work, visit quondesign.com.
The Mudslingers event will also offer live music by singer-songwriter Jim Crawford of Glasgow, Scotland.
Crawford’s music was nominated for Best CD and Best Song at the 2010 JAM (Jersey Acoustic Music) Awards, which honors the best unplugged music the local scene has to offer. Some of his songs are about quirky characters he has known. His most recent work, however, is focused on social commentary.
This popular free event will take place 1-6 p.m. Nov. 11.
