Senior Don Kane bowled a 671 series, as the two-time NJSIAA Group IV and South Jersey section champion Jackson Memorial High School’s boys bowling team finished second in the season opening Bishop Ahr Tournament on Dec. 1 at Carolier Lanes in East Brunswick.

Kane, who had the third highest average in Shore Conference South and finished fifth in the Shore Conference individuals and eighth in the state individuals last season, had the second best game at the Bishop Ahr Tournament with a 280. One bowler hit a 300.

“We had a bad first game, maybe because of openingmatch jitters,” coach Anthony Buzynski said. “As soon as we made the adjustment, we were all right. If not for that bad first game, we would’ve won the tournament. We were the best team there.”

Jackson Memorial shrugged off a 928 game with a 1,133 and 1,024 for 3,085 total wood, 21 pins behind John F. Kennedy Memorial High School.

Junior Jason Gold followed Kane’s efforts with games of 227, 224 and 191 in a 642 series. Senior Mike Ormsby rolled a 244 high game en route to a 613 series.

Jackson Memorial opened in Shore Conference A South against Manalapan High School at Howell Lanes on Dec. 3 and is taking on Freehold Township High School two days later. It will compete in the South Jersey Singles Tournament at Ocean Lanes on Dec. 8.
