HOPEWELL VALLEY: Reorganization sessions today, Monday

By John Tredrea, Special Writer
Hopewell Valley’s three municipal governments have scheduled their 2013 reorganization meetings, which will be held as follows:
   — Hopewell Borough Council will regroup today (Jan. 3) at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall, 88 E. Broad St. Incumbents Debra Horowitz (Democrat), of Model Avenue, and David Knight (Republican), of West Broad Street, will begin new three-year terms.
   — Hopewell Township Committee will reorganize Monday (Jan. 7) at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building, Route 546 and Scotch Road. Taking the oath of office as a new committeeman will be Democrat Harvey Lester, of Continental Lane. He replaces Republican Kim Johnson, who did not seek a second three-year term.
Mr. Lester’s election gives the Democrats a majority on the Township Committee for the first time since 2009. The other Democrats are longtime committeewoman and former mayor, Vanessa Sandom, and Allen Cannon, in his first term.
The two Republicans will be the current mayor, Michael Markulec, and the current deputy mayor, Jim Burd.
Sources say Ms. Sandom is expected to be picked as mayor, with Mr. Cannon as deputy mayor.
   — Pennington Borough Council will reorganize on Monday (Jan. 7) at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall, 30 N. Main St.
Scheduled to take oaths of office for new three-year terms are Democrats Eileen Heinzel, of Hale Street, and Dina Dunn, of Eglantine Avenue. Also to be sworn in is Democrat Mary Anne Heino, of North Main Street, who was elected to complete the rest of the unexpired term (ends Dec. 31, 2013) of Alyce McClurg-Doldy, who resigned.
