The Hunterdon County Family Success Center (FSC) has announced the following events and presentations during the weeks of March 4 and 11. All programs will be held at the FSC, located at 3 E. Main St., Flemington.
— March 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m. — FAFS Support Group. The Foster and Adoptive Family Services (FAFS) Social is open to families with adopted and/or foster children interested in joining the FAFS Support Group.
— March 5 and 12, and March 7 and 14, 3-5 p.m. — Homework Helpers. Student volunteers from Hunterdon Central High School, many of whom are members of the National Honor Society, will be available for kids of all ages who need help with their homework. — March 5 and 12, 6:30 p.m. — Homework Club is available to kids of all ages, in both English and Spanish. During the month of January, children will be given an opportunity to create a Valentine’s Day card which will be sent to soldiers serving abroad for them to send back to their loved one. — March 5 and 12, 5-7 p.m. — Girls Nite In is an empowerment group for girls 12 and older. At the same time, Moms Nite In for those moms who are dropping off their daughters for Girls Nite In, some time just for you. Tell your friends! Call the FSC at 908-237-0465 to register.
— March 7 and 14, 5-6 p.m. — LEGO Hour. This event is for boys ages 7 – 12. A light snack will be provided, but boys need to bring their own Legos. To register, please call the FSC at 908-237-0465.
— March 7 and 14, 5-7 p.m. — Translation & Document Assistance* Spanish to English and English to Spanish* Assistance in navigating a system* Understanding your child’s report card* Navigating Immigration Services and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)* Learning who can assist with your taxes. — March 7 and 14, 5-7 p.m. — Budgeting Workshop. Monthly budgeting workshops will be held starting in March. Learning how to budget can secure your future and prevent homelessness. Topics will include:* Why do I need a Budget Plan?* Create a Personal Household Budget* Know your Credit Score* How to improve your Credit Score!* Financial Fitness for Kids* How to plan for emergencies and milestones. — March 8, noon-2 p.m. — FSO Parent Support Group. Support group for the parents of children or young adults living with mental health challenges. A light lunch will be provided. Sponsored by the Family Support Organization of Hunterdon, Somerset, Warren Counties. For more information about this support group, contact Renee Clark at the FSO, 908-231-9932, ext.12.
— March 11, 5:30 p.m. — Hispanic Community Workshop. This one-hour educational workshop is provided to members of the Hispanic community to be eligible for free diapers. Discussions include topics such as parenting issues and nutrition. To register, contact Flor Sanchez at 908-237-0465.
— March 13, 5-6 p.m. — Sibling Support Group. A support group for kids who have a sibling who struggles with a mental disorder. This one-hour session will be facilitated by Jeff Hunt, LCADC, LPC, and Sue Boer, LPC, of B and H Counseling. The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month. Some programs held at the Family Success Center are presented by outside parties utilizing the FSC facilities.
The FSC is administered by Hunterdon Prevention Resources (HPR), in collaboration with Hunterdon Helpline, with funding from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. The mission of the FSC is to provide a welcoming family-friendly environment to all county residents in order to strengthen and empower individuals and families through collaborative family-centered activities, educational workshops, and access to resources to acquire knowledge and skills needed to maintain healthy family relationships.
