Middlesex County’s four golf courses have been fully operational for winter play and are gearing up for the start of the spring season, as well as some other noted additions. Putting Hurricane Sandy behind them, in-house crews will complete any remaining storm-damage repairs and scheduled maintenance at the various courses in March, prior to the April 1 kick-off of the year’s busiest season. Crews plan to pay special attention to the Tamarack Golf Courses this year. These two 18-hole championship courses are situated side-byside on a rolling East Brunswick landscape and come complete with a full-scale driving range for golfers’ convenience. Staff members will also make seasonal maintenance rounds at the Meadows at Middlesex in Plainsboro, a bent grass, par-72, 18- hole course with its specialized, environmentally friendly irrigation system and freshly aerated greens and tees. Raritan Landing’s par-58, 18- hole executive style course in Piscataway will undergo similar pre-spring upkeep, as employees expect this premier location to attract a wave of families, seniors and beginning golfers, who arrive just as soon as mild weather breaks.“Golf courses have their own checklist for spring cleaning,” said Rod Brennan, Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) golf director.“Right now we’re working on the machines, cleaning the courses of debris and chipping branches and the few outof play trees that are still down from the storm.”With no increase in the 2013 rates, Middlesex County golf courses will continue their tradition of providing inexpensive play for many of the state’s golf enthusiasts. “We have earned our reputation for offering some of the most affordable and quality, year-round golf courses,” said MCIA Chairman Leonard J. Roseman. “I’m also pleased to announce that we’ve recently introduced a reduced rate for a newly designated category of golfer.” Disabled Middlesex County residents will now be able to register at the MCIA’s golf courses for a reduced rate on weekday play.
