Sumo-wrestling event to raise funds at Elks

South Amboy Elks Lodge No. 784 will sponsor its Sumo-Wrestling Fundraiser 7- 11 p.m. March 23 at the lodge, 601 Washington Ave.

Proceeds will be used to sponsor local students to attend the New Jersey State Elks Peer Leadership Conference at the Ocean Place Resort, Long Branch.

Cost is $5 for admission (includes a hotdog bar with all the fixings), $10 to wrestle, $5 for additional matches.

The Elks Peer Leadership Conference is open to all New Jersey students in grades 9- 12 who are proud to be alcohol, tobacco and drug free. The purpose of the conference is to increase participants’ ability to make healthy decisions, specifically related to drugs and alcohol, for themselves and others around them; to increase leadership abilities to effectively create positive change in the students’ schools and communities; to provide tools and resources to implement action plans in their communities; and to create a network of peer leaders with the ability to educate their groups, schools and communities on the skills presented at the conference. The program will include keynote addresses, interactive workshops and other events.
