Metuchen H.S. brings music to Disney

The Metuchen High School music department brought 144 students to Disney World in Florida on March 15-18.

During the trip, students performed for park visitors and attended workshops.

The marching band, called “The Pride of Metuchen,” paraded down Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, while the chorus and orchestra both performed at the Innovations outdoor stage at Epcot Center.

Band and orchestra members attended the “You’re Instrumental” workshop, a seminar led by a Disney conductor. Students rehearsed and recorded a soundtrack for a Disney animation.

Concert choir members attended the “Disney Sings” workshop, where they rehearsed and recorded an excerpt from a Disney animated soundtrack. They also learned audition skills and vocal techniques with guidance from a Disney vocalist.

Color guard members attended the “Auxiliration” workshop. They rehearsed and performed a simulated Disney special event production.

Each workshop was accredited by the Music Educators National Conference.
