Red Bank Regional (RBR) High School sprinters had a big day in Division I, with the boys taking both the 4×100- meter and 4×200-meter relays.

The team of Alim Godsey, Mario Williams, Sadiq Palmer and Jahimere Hinton topped Long Branch High School, 44.41 to 44.64.

Williams and Hinton returned with Luis Beltran and Matt Kumar to take the 4×200 in 1:31.80.

RBR’s Peter Colin had the longest throw in the discus relay, 138-4, but it wasn’t enough to get the Buccaneers a win.

Long Branch got a win in the triple jump, as Shabazz Shuler had the best leap of the competition, 41-0 1/2. That, with Melvin Ramos’ 36-0 1/2, gave the Green Wave a comfortable win.

Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH) Regional High School won the boys shot put, as Jason Bryan unleashed the best throw of the event, 54-6 3/4. Teammate Danny Wojciehowski backed that up with a 42-9 1/2 that won the event comfortably for the Bulldogs’ throwers. Long Branch (71), RBR (49) and RFH (41) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, behind host Matawan’s 95 points.

Winning teams for the girls were Long Branch’s 4×100 team, RFH’s 4×800 and 1,600 sprint medley teams, Monmouth Regional High School’s shot put and discus teams, and Ocean Township High School’s discus and shot put tandems.

Mariah Blanton, Ryasia Cunningham, Justiss McKinney and Tanai Johnson won the 4×100 for Long Branch in 50.67.

RFH turned to its cross-country stars to beat RBR in the 4×800 (9:51.68-10:10.79). Michaella Irvine, Jacqueline Gottuso, Hannah Anderson and Isabella Maita were the victorious quartet.

In the sprint medley, Janie Devito, Amanda Anderson, Emily Geiger and Courtney Howley brought home the gold in 4:25.72.

Monmouth’s Chloe Yelle whirled the discus, 105-4, the best overall throw at the meet. With teammate Halena Martin coming up with the fourth best throw, 96-5, the Golden Falcons won by more than 20 feet. Things were much closer for Yelle (36-11) and Martin (33-5) in the shot put relay. They were fourth and seventh overall. Combined, they were 2 feet better than Pleasantville High School.

In Division II, Deona Edgerton’s 86-10 was the top discus throw and Michelle Mazza’s 84-11 was third best, which was more than enough to give the Spartans the relay triumph.

Mazza (36-2 1/4) and Sydney Beck (32-7 1/2) went onetwo in the shot put to give them an easy win.

Ocean was second to Woodbridge, 74-66, in Division II.

Monmouth and RFH tied for fifth in Division I with 38 points. Matawan was first with 77.

One of the relay stops this weekend is the Cougar Relays at Colts Neck High School on Saturday, April 20.
