Edison man indicted in fatal accident in South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A 56-year-old Edison man was indicted by a Middlesex County grand jury on April 25 on a vehicular manslaughter charge in connection with a motor vehicle accident that killed the father of a Rider University student one year ago.

Jimmy Jung was hired to transport a family from a hotel in Lawrenceville to La- Guardia Airport on May 3, 2012. The family had just attended their daughter’s graduation at Rider University and was flying to their home in Shanghai, China.

Chunhua Jin, 53, was killed on impact while sitting in the back seat of a 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan when it ran into the rear of a 2002 Mack truck, which was stopped at a red light. South Brunswick police responded to the crash at 4:02 a.m. at the intersection of Route 1 and Henderson Road.

The victim’s wife, Juing Zhang, 52; his daughter, Xiaoyun Jin, 21; and his grandson, Yiwei Jin, 7, were injured in the crash. All three were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Officials said Xiaoyun was released after being treated, and Juing and Yiwei were admitted to the hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the Mack truck was not hurt in the crash.

The Monmouth Junction and Kendall Park first aid squads, Monmouth Junction Fire Department, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene. The accident was investigated by the South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
