Family Fun and Safety Day set for June 1

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Family Fun and Safety Day in partnership with the Middlesex County chapters of the YMCA on June 1. The Take25 event is in recognition of National Missing Children’s Day and will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the Middlesex County Police Training Center, Edison.

An awards ceremony for the winners of the sheriff’s artwork contest will precede the Family Safety and Fun Day. The contest invited fourth-grade students to submit artwork to sheriff office publications, “Bicycle Safety” and “Personal Safety” — children’s activity books that are distributed throughout the Middlesex County and reinforce safety in various areas.

Over 700 children throughout the county submitted artwork.

The Fun and Safety Day will give families and children hands-on safety activities to reinforce the themes in the publications. The Sheriff’s Office will provide fingerprinting for kids, car seat safety demonstrations, a “Wheel of Safety” game, and a “Stranger Danger” program.

Sheriff’s vehicles will also be on-site for photo opportunities. The YMCA will present their “Healthy U” program, a series of fun activities designed to get kids moving. Other activities will include a bouncy house, obstacle course and parachute play.
