Nearly 30 cars have been burglarized since January, and the Lawrence Township Police Department is urging owners to lock their cars and to hide valuables from sight.
Since the beginning of the year, burglars have broken into nearly two dozen cars — many of them parked at shopping centers. They have also entered eight unlocked cars, most of which have been parked in their owner’s driveway.
Unknown suspects have been entering unlocked cars and rummaging through center consoles and glove compartments, police Detective Sgt. Joseph Amodio said. The thieves will take loose change, laptops, cell phones, sunglasses and any other item that can be sold easily, he said.
”Leave any electronics, such as GPS units, out of sight or lock them in the trunk,” Sgt. Amodio said. “This is also good practice when you go shopping, because thieves drive through parking lots looking for electronics or wallets in the car. They will break a window to take the items.”
The police are searching for suspects in the car break-ins, Sgt. Amodio said. He urged residents to call the Police Department if they see anything suspicious in the neighborhood. The Police Department can be reached at 609-896-1111.
