SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Middle schools reap sweet rewards

The Crossroads North and South Middle School music programs competed in the “Music in the Park” competitions at Hershey Park, Pennsylvania recently.

The Crossroads North and South Middle School music programs competed in the “Music in the Park” competitions at Hershey Park, Pennsylvania recently.
   Awards for Crossroads North were as follows: Concert Band- excellent rating, best band in division; Symphonic Band best band in division, best overall concert band; Concert Orchestra – excellent rating best orchestra in its division; Symphonic Orchestra – excellent rating, best band in division, best overall concert band. Jazz Ensemble – superior rating, second place in the division; Jazz Band – excellent rating, best band in division. Treble Choir – superior rating, best choir in division. Concert Choir – superior rating, second place in their division, Vocal Ensemble – superior rating, best choir in division, best overall choir.
   In addition, Elizabeth Chen was awarded Best Piano Accompanist of the entire festival.
   Crossroads South won the following: Concert Band – superior rating, second place in junior high division. Symphonic Band – superior rating and first place in junior high school division. Treble Choir received excellent rating and first place in division. Concert Choir received superior rating and first place in division. Vocal Ensemble was awarded a superior rating and first place in their division. The group also received the Judge’s Choice Award for best overall performance. The Concert Orchestra received a superior rating and first place in their division. The Symphonic Orchestra received a superior rating and first place in their division. The Jazz Ensemble received a superior rating and second place in their division. The Jazz Band received a superior rating and first place in their division. The Jazz Band received the Judge’s Choice Award for best overall performance in their category.
   Ashani Panita also received the Outstanding Choral Accompanist award.
   ”Results like this reflect the level of teaching ability and commitment from the music staff at our schools” said Superintendent Gary McCartney.
