Movie enthusiasts can kick off the summer with Raconteur Radio as they present their interpretation of the favorite beachside blockbuster “Jaws: A Staged Radio Play” on June 21.
When a killer whale with the cunning of a U-boat commander is eating swimmers and threatening to destroy the precarious prosperity of a U.S. beach resort, the local police chief is prompted to hunt it down with the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter.
The cast includes W. Carlyle Owens as Sheriff Marcus Brody, a cop looking for redemption;
Jeff Maschi as the grizzled seadog Quint, a veteran of both war and water; Laurence Mintz as the dweeby oceanographer Matt Hooper, desperate to show the world and Quint that he’s man enough to take down the big fish; and Michael Jarmus as Mayor Vaughn, a smarmy politician who refuses to acknowledge anything that may deter affluent vacationers.
The performance will begin 8 p.m. at the Old Franklin School, 491 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen. Tickets are $10.
