HILLSBOROUGH: Senior citizens remain an active bunch

CHAPTER A
   Chapter A members are invited to our upcoming “Wedding Belles” event at 1 p.m. Friday, June 28, in the Senior Activity Room.
   Try to identify other club members in their wedding pictures. Bring memorabilia (including wedding-day stories) from your wedding that you would like to share. Prizes and wedding cake refreshments.
   The next club meeting will be Tuesday, July 2, moved up due to the Independence Day holiday. A representative from the Hillsborough Police Department will discuss scams against seniors.
   Meetings start at 12:30 p.m. all Hillsborough seniors age 60-plus are invited. Dues are $5 a year and new members may join at any meeting. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., allowing time to review upcoming events. Refreshments are served after the meeting.
Upcoming events
   Sat., July 13 — Annual anniversary party at Mary, Mother of God Church on South Triangle Road, starting at 11:30 a.m. Appetizers, dinner, music, dancing, prizes. Member cost is $25, refunded at event. Guest cost is $35, non-refundable.
   Wed., July 17 — “Marriage Go Round,” a comedy at the Rainbow Theater in Lancaster, Pa. Departure from Kohl’s parking lot at 8:45 a.m. Cost is $85.
   Fri., Aug. 9 — Trip to Monmouth Race Track and dinner at (our favorite!!) Basile’s Restaurant in Freehold. Departure from Kohl’s parking lot at 11 a.m. Cost is $74.
   Sun., Aug. 18 — Chapter A picnic at the Falcon Club on Falcon Road. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, sweet corn, salads and watermelon by Elmer’s Catering. Games and prizes! Noon to 4 p.m. Cost is $15, refunded at event.
   Our next trip to the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City is Monday, July 1. The trip is open to members and non-members (over 21) for $30, with $25 returned. Departs at 9 a.m. from Kohl’s lot and returns at about 7:30 p.m. Call Jo at 908-359-6418 for reservations. Pay on bus.

CHAPTER B
   The next meeting will be held on Thursday, July 11, at the municipal building. All regular meetings begin at 12:30 p.m. Registration for trips begins at 11 a.m.
   You must purchase your tickets for the Aug. 8 “picnic” at this meeting. There will be special entertainment by the Metropolitan Festival Band, which features a keyboard, sax and vocalist.
   The picnic will be held in the air-conditioned comfort of the all-purpose room. Come out and enjoy good food, live music and great company.
      Members wearing their name badges will be eligible for a drawing at the end of the meeting for a special gift.
   Volunteers are needed for Thursday, June 27, at 9 a.m. in the all-purpose room to help send out the tax bills.
   A day trip to the Culinary Institute of America is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2. The cost is $85, which includes a tour of the Institute, an Italian dinner and a tour of the nearby Vanderbilt Home Museum, located in the Hyde Park, N.Y., area.
   A trip to a Somerset Patriots baseball game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23. More info to follow.
   A day trip to Monmouth Raceway is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 23. The cost is $70, which includes the entrance fee, a program with grandstand seating and dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Basile’s Restaurant in Freehold. You may purchase a ticket beginning at the July meeting on a first-come, first-serve basis.
   A trip to Cooperstown, N.Y., is scheduled for Sept. 24-26. This trip includes transportation, three days and two nights’ lodging, breakfasts, two dinners and tours of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Farmers’ Museum, Fenimore Museum of Art, Ommegang Brewery and Fly Creek Cider Mill. The cost is $317. Payments are due at the July and August meetings.
   On Wednesday, Oct. 16, celebrate Octoberfest at Mt. Haven Lodge in Milford, Pa. This includes a full country breakfast, use of resort facilities, super bingo, four-hour open bar with German beer, dinner buffet with special dessert, and live DJ with dancing for $72.

   The wellness center at 339 South Branch Road is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Its phone is 908-369-8700.
   Transportation is available.
   Enjoy lunch for a suggested donation of $1.50 or more. (Price for guests under 60 is $5.35). Call 908-369-8700 before 10:30 a.m. the day before to make a lunch reservation.
   Blood pressure screening is held the third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Cards can be played every day. You can flex, stretch and tone with Rose on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

   Fri., June 28 — Youth Stages acting camp performance at the Montgomery Senior Center.
