Looking for a Ford Crown Victoria sedan? How about a John Deere mower? Maybe a Panasonic tape player or a video cassette recorder?

Looking for a Ford Crown Victoria sedan? How about a John Deere mower? Maybe a Panasonic tape player or a video cassette recorder?
Why not an electric typewriter, or maybe some spare parts for a floor model water fountain?
Those are among the items that will be sold to the public by Lawrence Township at its annual online auction of surplus equipment, which begins July 1 and ends July 6. Buyers can register to bid at www.govdeals.com.
Township Council approved the list of items to be auctioned at its June 18 meeting.
The items, which include bicycles, computer printers and even a couple of portable heaters, are considered to be surplus and not needed by Lawrence Township, according to Gregory Whitehead, the director of the township’s Department of Public Works.
There are several Ford Crown Victoria sedans, a Ford Taurus station wagon, a Ford Explorer, a snow blower, assorted computers and computer equipment, as well as some filing cabinets and paper shredders.
Lawrence Township has always held auctions to get rid of unneeded items, Mr. Whitehead said. In the past, “live” auctions were held at the Department of Public Works, but it was inefficient, he said. It required staffers’ time to set up the auction, for example.
That’s why Lawrence Township switched to online auctions a few years ago, he said. All of the surplus pieces can be viewed online, although it is a good idea to make arrangements to take a look at them in person, he added.
”You can still make an appointment to view the items, and we encourage people to do that,” Mr. Whitehead said. “We have had people from as far away as Virginia bid on things in the auction.”
