HILLSBOROUGH: Swimmers’ times come down in Rapids dual meets

Youngsters lower personal, team bests

   The Roycefield Rapids lost close dual meets to Frog Hollow Swim Club of South Amboy and the Cedar Hill Club of Somerset, bringing their dual meet record to 2-2 as of July 3.
   Both meets were competitive and resulted in several team records for the Rapids.
   Girl recordbreakers were Haley Tevnan (12) in the 50 breaststroke for age 11-12, Megan Bull (14) in the 100 breast for age 13-14, Alexandra Temple (13) in the 100 backstroke for age 13-14, Lindsay Temple (17) in the 50 freestyle and 100 Free for age 13-18, and
   The relay quad of Megan Bull (14), Alexandra Temple (13), Meghan Tevnan (13) and Lindsay Temple (17) broke a 16-year-old record in the 200 freestyle relay for age 13-18 by nearly 5 seconds. The prior recordholders were: E. Gregory, M. Gregory, E. Fuller and J. Schnatter.
   For the boys, lowering records were Thomas Zdroik (12) in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly for age 11-12, and Brad Zdroik (16) in the 100 butterfly for age 15-18.
   Earlier in the season, Lindsay Temple also set the age 15-18 girls’ 100 butterfly record at the boy-girl meet.
   Many others had spectacular swims. Christian Cutts (10) scored his first individual points of the season at Frog Hollow in the boys’ 100 IM and 50 freestyle.
   Boys with significant time drops included: Joey Cseh (11) in the 100 IM, 50 butterfly, and 50 backstroke; Daniel Capodanno (12) in the 100 IM and 50 freestyle; Brendan Lynch (17) in 200 IM and 100 freestyle; and David Liotta (16) in the 100 butterfly.
   Others with reductions in the boys’ butterfly events included: Joseph McChesney (7), James McChesney (10), Cael O’Brien (14), Evan Morgan (13), Sean Lynch (14) and Ryan Morgan (16).
   Lowering times in boys’ freestyle events were Joseph McChesney (7), Brad Marra (11), Marco Passalacqua (11), Cael O’Brien (14), Evan Morgan (13), Sean Lynch (14), Ty Marra (13), Ryan Morgan (16), James Mehrtens (15) and Chris Salandra (16).
   In the boys’ backstroke events, Peter Cipparulo (7) and Cole Marra (9) lowered times. In the boys’ breaststroke, Sean Penko (11) and Eric Kohlenstein (14) swam personal bests.
   Several of the girls also had best times:
   Sabrina Nieves (9), Skylar Ward (11), Elena Soisson (12) and Kristina Choe (14) in freestyle events;
   Nicolene Harkins (7), Kira Pinto (8), Marissa Choe (11) and Alexis Petrosino (17) in breaststroke events;
   Caitlyn Cutts (7) and Kate Mastronardi (11) in backstroke events;
   Mia Pinto (10) and Meghan Tevnan (13) in individual medley events;
   Kira Pinto (8), Kristina Choe (14),and Jessica D’Agostino (13) in butterfly events.
