SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Time for summer at Willows

With plenty of summertime left before school starts, the Willows swim club in Kendall Park still has openings for membership.

With plenty of summertime left before school starts, the Willows swim club in Kendall Park still has openings for membership.
At the Willows there are free swim lessons for children, while partents can enjoy a game of tennis with a friend and then relax during adult swim. The club is located at 22 Sand Hills Road in the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick.
Since 1960, area families have enjoyed their summers at the six-acre club creating memories and making friends. The club has a newly resurfaced 25-meter Z-shaped pool, which includes a wading section and diving well with two diving boards. Members can participate in daily raft hour fun, adult swim, group or private swim lessons. The shallow kiddie pool features a mushroom fountain in the center offering a fun and safe environment for young families.
Included on the property are two recently resurfaced tennis courts, handball court, basketball court, sand volleyball court and shuffleboard courts. The kids can have fun in the sand area around the new wood playground or for the smallest members, on the plastic play sets by the kiddie pool. The clubhouse includes rest rooms, showers and changing areas. Screened pavilion picnic tables are also available as well as the new picnic grove.
Additional activities for children include Stories in the Shade, BubbleMania, sand castle building, sidewalk art, and on the weekends, there are family events such as bingo, raft night, BBQs, Movie Night, and Teen Nights. For holiday weekends, a DJ really gets the club in a party mood and there are games throughout the day.
Mature trees, along with over 100 tables with umbrellas provide shade while lounge chairs and plenty of open space are available for relaxing in the sun. Barbeque grills and picnic tables, as well as a full-service snack bar, Confects Too, which is run by a local business, offer options for easy summer meals.
The Willows is located between routes 1 and 27 making the commute from neighboring towns easy. More than 275 member families enjoy their summer at the club and take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere while many are also involved with A League Willows Wave swim team, for ages 5 to 18. Besides offering swimmers the opportunity to develop their skills in competition, the swim team provides a great way for kids to make friends.
It is not too late for a 2013 membership as the club offers an August membership as well as bonded memberships. Rates and membership applications can be found on the club’s website at www.willowsswimclub.com, or for more information call (732) 297-9777 or stop by the club.
