Somerset Patriots fight pancreatic cancer

I would like to thank the Somerset Patriots for being so accommodating in helping to make the Northern New Jersey Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s fourth annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day on July 21 such a success.

With the Patriots’ assistance, our organization was able to raise awareness about the fourth-leading cause of cancer death in the United States. This kind of awareness is increasingly important, as pancreatic cancer is expected to become the second-leading cause of cancer death by 2020, and possibly as early as 2015. The disease has the lowest five-year survival rate of any major cancer — at just six percent.

Through events like this baseball game, the PurpleLight National Vigil for Hope event on Oct. 27 in Edison, and our PurpleStride New Jersey 5K walk and run (purplestride.org/newjersey) on Nov. 10 in Parsippany, we can change the course of this disease and save lives. Todd Cohen Edison
