Chapters A and B report activities

CHAPTER A
   At our next meeting today our speaker will guide us through the “Medicare Maze.”
   The Health Department is administering free flu shots at the end of the meeting. Bring your Medicare card with you.
   At our November meeting we’ll honor our veterans with a visit from Operation Shoebox NJ Executive Director Rod Hirsch. He will share photos and letters from those currently serving in Afghanistan and other locations around the world. Be sure to wear your red, white and blue.
   On Friday, Oct. 25, we’re going to try to guess the identity of fellow Chapter A members from baby pictures. Bring your picture (age range birth to 5 years) in a bag with your name in the bag. Prizes and light refreshments.
   Our meetings start at 12:30 p.m. and all Hillsborough seniors age 60 and older are invited. Dues are $5 a year and new members may join at any meeting. Our membership chairman is Loretta Tansey (908-359-1171).
   Doors open at 11:30 a.m., allowing time to review upcoming events and make reservations. Refreshments are served after the meeting.
   Members may at any time contribute kitchen supplies — coffee, decaf, napkins, plastic sandwich bags, etc.
   If you are wearing your nametag, you’ll receive two (not one, but two) tickets for the raffle at the end of the meeting.
   Remember your food item for the Hillsborough Food Bank. Many thanks to those of you who are participating!
   Please feel free to post any appropriate items on the Chapter A bulletin board — dinners, rummage sales, tricky trays, etc.
   Remember, the suggestion box is available to you. Also, you can dispose of unused prescription drugs at any time in a box in the police department.
   Upcoming events:
   • Wed., Oct. 9 —Annual appreciation lunch for all Chapter A members. Bingo follows the meal in the multi-purpose room at the Municipal Building at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $12, refunded at event to members.
   • Wed., Oct. 16 — “Farewell to King Henry and Showmen” at Penn’s Peak, Pa. Depart from Kohl’s parking lot at 9 a.m. Cost is $80.
   • Thurs., Oct. 17 — Senior Bingo, hosted by Chapter B, at 11:30 a.m. at the Municipal Building with hot dog lunch. Cost is $3 for one card and $5 for two cards. Ticket is required.
   • Wed., Nov. 6 — Oktoberfest at Ehrhardt’s in the Pocono Mountains, Pa. Departure from Kohl’s parking lot at 7:45 a.m. Cost is $78.
   • Thurs., Dec. 12 — “Christmas in the Poconos” in Milford, Pa. Departs from Kohl’s parking lot. Cost is $78.
   Our next trip to the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City is on Monday, Oct. 7. The Taj Mahal is next to Showboat and within walking distance of the Revel Casino. Open to members and non-members (over 21) for $30, with $25 returned. Departs at 9 a.m. from Kohl’s parking lot, and returns about 7:30 p.m. Call Jo at 908-359-6418 for reservations. Pay on bus.
   Senior room activities:
   Monday: Knitting from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
   Tuesday: Bridge from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Tripoli at 12:30.
   Wednesday: Canasta from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mah jongg from noon-4 p.m.
   Thursday: Bridge from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
   Friday: Mah jongg from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CHAPTER B
   Our next meeting — our fall Halloween luncheon — will be Oct. 10 in the multi-purpose room of the municipal building. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. There will be a special meeting at 11:30. Lunch will be served at noon.
   If you wish to wear a costume, there will be prizes.
   You do not have to wear your badge at this meeting. Free flu shots will be available afterwards. Be sure to bring the ticket you bought at September’s meeting for your $15 refund.
   Members wearing their name badges will be eligible for a drawing at the end of most meetings for a special gift. Be sure to wear your badge — but not in October.
   If you have a new email address or want to be added to Club B’s email list, see Ralph Fariello at the next meeting.
   The holiday luncheon has been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, at Mary, Mother of God Church. Tickets may be purchased at the October and November meetings.
   Reminder: Dues for 2014 will be $10 and will start to be collected at the Oct. 10 meeting. They must be paid by Dec. 31 or you will lose your membership.
   Tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 4, a fifth anniversary celebration will be held in the Senior Center beginning at 9 a.m.
   Don’t forget the Dec. 12 regular meeting date for the holiday party; information will follow.
   Three trips have been sold, but there is a waiting list for all three, if you wish to sign up. They are:
   • Oct. 16, Octoberfest at Mt. Haven Lodge in Milford, Pa.
   • Nov. 13, lunch and show at Mt Airy Lodge and Casino in Pennsylvania.
   • Dec. 3, Christmas show at Hunterdon Hills Playhouse.
   On Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Brownstone in northern New Jersey, the club will go to a pre-New Year’s Eve party. The cost of $72 includes transportation, lunch with wine, show and dancing.
   Special advance reservations are being taken for a trip to Martha’s Vineyard from May 19-22 at a price of $568.
   Tickets will be sold at the November and December meetings — two payments of $284 each. This includes transportation, three breakfasts and dinners, tour from Hyannis to Provincetown, guided escorts to Martha’s Vineyard via ferry and Newport, R.I.

   ’Free exercise programs are available for all Hillsborough seniors and are designed for all levels of fitness.
   In the municipal building’s all-purpose room (where clubs A and B meet), there are sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m., and 12:30 and 2 p.m. Stretching and low-impact dancing are included. Free transportation is available. Call 908-369-3880 for details.
   Another senior exercise program, “Flex, Stretch, and Tone with Rose,” is held at the Hillsborough Senior Wellness Center, 339 South Branch Road (near the YMCA) on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Call 908-369-8700 for details.
