Artist’s work depicts the human experience

The Barron Arts Center is presenting an exhibit featuring the works of Armenian born artist Sassoon Kosian through Oct. 20.

A reception for “Sassoon Kosian: Works of Art” will be held 7-9 p.m. Oct. 15, with light refreshments available. Reservations are required.

Growing up in Armenia, Kosian had a keen interest in modern art and making art. Though mostly a self-taught artist, Kosian developed a strong affinity for painting. This affinity, combined with his later studies at the Art Students League of New York, led him to create and become known for his hard-edge geometric abstractions.

Kosian has developed an original process for his work, using computer-generated “blueprints” that evolve slowly into the finished work.

“My work is about human experiences,” Kosian said. “Emotions, feelings and thoughts are represented by a dynamic interplay of color and nonrepresentational forms. I often express energy and motion. One of my artistic objectives is to create ever more intense pieces that convey emotional power and energy.”

Kosian exhibits frequently in New York and other U.S. cities. He is the recipient of a 2012 Merit Scholarship Award from the Art Students League of New York. He has won awards in national juried exhibitions and art competitions, and his art has been featured in a number of art publications.

The Barron Arts Center is located at 582 Rahway Ave., Woodbridge. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Woodbridge Township Cultural Arts Commission.
