The Crosswicks Community Association’s annual Halloween Parade and Party will be held 4 p.m., Sunday Oct. 27 at the Crosswicks Community House. This fun-filled family event begins at the Union Fire Company and will allow kids to explore the fire trucks on display.
The fire truck will lead the way down Main Street to the Crosswicks Community House as kids parade behind, showing off their Halloween best. The Crosswicks-Doctors Creek Watershed Association (CDCWA) announces the continuation of a well-water testing initiative within the watershed. This is an opportunity for local residents to learn about the safety of their well water. The initiative is being funded, in part, by a grant from the Watershed Institute.
Through this initiative, the CDCWA is able to offer the test to residents of the watershed for $95. The regular price of the test is $225. All water samples will be analyzed by a certified New Jersey laboratory, and all who participate in the program will receive a one-year membership to the CDCWA in addition to a free CDCWA T-shirt. The offer is good for the first 43 respondents or until Oct. 31, whichever occurs first.

Fernbrook Farms in Chesterfield is hosting a Farm to Table dinner to benefit Fernbrook Farms Environmental Education Center’s Urban Initiatives Program.
Since 2005, Fernbrook Farms Environmental Education Center has brought over 600 Trenton youth to the farm each year. The children are engaged in hands-on educational activities that focus on the environment, sources of their food, and their natural world. Most importantly they gain a sense of compassion for their community and each other.
The Farm to Table dinner will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. The cost to attend is $150. The event will feature Chef Max Hansen from Farmstead Food.

The Crosswicks United Methodist Church All-You-Can-Eat Roast Beef Dinner will be held 3:30 – 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5.

The Whimsical Witches of Crosswicks annual Witches Ball will be held 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 at the Crosswicks Community House at 480 Main St. in Crosswicks.

Chesterfield Township expects to start single-stream recycling in May 2014. That means residents will be able to put all their recyclable items (cans, bottles, paper and cardboard) into the big blue cart that is now used for paper and cardboard only.
Recycled items will still be collected every other week.
Single-stream recycling is convenient, increases recycling volume and saves money.
The county needs to know who needs a free extra recycling container before Sept. 30.

The Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission is giving Chesterfield Township residents a chance to win a tree.
Each month, the Environmental Commission is featuring a particular species of tree and asking the Chesterfield residents to take pictures of the featured tree.
At the monthly meeting, the Environmental Commission will judge which picture is best. The winner will be contacted by email and will win a new tree to plant.

The Chesterfield Township Environmental Commission is participating in a recycling program for inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges and cell phones.
These items will be recycled into usable products.
The commission receives credits for each cartridge and cell phone. It will use the credits towards reforestation, protection of natural resources and ecological education for residents.
Collection boxes are at the Crosswicks Library, Chesterfield Township municipal office and Chesterfield General Store.

The Chesterfield Township Historical Society will be celebrating the Township’s 325th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26.
From the early days of the native Lenni Lenape and the arrival of the Quaker settlers, to the Revolutionary war skirmishes, its role in the Underground Railroad and its agricultural riches, Chesterfield Township is a historical treasure.
The day’s festivities will include the Old Barracks Fife and Drum Corps kicking off the days’ events at the Ward Avenue Museum by leading a parade down Main Street.
The museum will also unveil a majestic 38 star American flag purchased in 1884 by local residents to fly in Sykesville village.
Lectures at the historic Crosswicks Friends Meeting House by state historians will also be held on significant topics in local history.
Other attractions include colonial games, a children’s art contest featuring Chesterfield history, exhibition of antique farm equipment and traditional craftspeople demonstrating their trades of pottery making, black smithing, basket making, yarn spinning, needle work, quill pen writing and open-hearth cooking with some opportunities for public participation.
In addition, there will be a brick mincemeat sale with a traditional Crosswicks-based recipe, the opening of the Malcolm Knowles Memorial Research Library at the Front Street Historical Society headquarters and food sold by the Chesterfield Inn, including Chicken Salad, based on traditional Crosswicks Community Association recipe, and Taylor Pork roll sandwiches, a product developed by a descendent of one of the original settlers of Chesterfield Township.
