Pennington’s Holiday Walk, long a major event in the Valley’s social calendar, will be held Dec. 6 this year, it was announced at Monday night’s Pennington Borough Council meeting.
The Holiday Walk is sponsored by the Pennington Business and Professional Association (PBPA). Local real estate agent and PBPA member Brit West said at Monday night’s meeting that this year’s walk will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
”Downtown streets will be closed, all the shops will stay open,” Mr. West said. “There will be caroling, and Santa will be there for the children, in front of Sun Bank” at North Main Street and East Delaware Avenue.
Mayor Anthony Persichilli and other officials will be at the lighting of a large holiday tree, on the lawn of the Howe Commons, at 65 South Main Street.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, the council unanimously passed a resolution authorizing re-advertisement for bids for a rehabilitation project for the borough’s water storage tank. One of the key functions of that tank, located in the municipal parking lot off North Main Street, is to ensure that there is always enough water pressure for firefighting.
In other business, the borough reconsidered, and decided to move ahead with, a previously passed resolution that authorizes a five-year renewal of the agreement between the borough and the Mercer County Improvement Authority (MCIA).
Under the agreement, the MCIA will continue its curbside pickup of recyclables in the borough from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 31, 2018.
Mayor Persichilli noted that the borough can “shop around” for a better deal in the meantime.
