CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF (PHOTO)

A great blue heron that had been rehabilitated at the Mercer County Wildlife Center after being injured was released back into its natural habitat at Mercer County Park in West Windsor on Tuesday.
Pictured from left are Wildlife Center Director Diane Nickerson, Park Ranger Brandon Nitschmann and County Executive Brian M. Hughes.
The majestic bird had gotten its wing caught in fishing line and was found dangling from a tree near the county park’s marina on Oct. 17. It was freed, but wasn’t able to fly due to its injuries and had to be rescued from Lake Mercer by Mr. Nitschmann and two park visitors. The heron was then taken to the Wildlife Center in Hopewell Township for treatment.
