PHILADELPHIA — United States marshals apprehended a Trenton man wanted for a series of car burglaries in Beekman Manor.
Hassan M. Brown, 19, of Trenton, was taken into custody by the marshals in Philadelphia on Oct. 28, according to police.
The marshals joined the hunt for Mr. Brown in early October after South Brunswick Police interrupted him and Roberto Alecia, 19, of Delran as they were allegedly breaking into a car in the development.
According to police, officers confronted two suspects in the development around 4:55 a.m. Oct. 7.
A resident in the development called police to report that the suspects were allegedly trying to break into vehicles.
The suspects fled on foot.
Police called in a State Police helicopter and K-9 units to aid in the search for the men.
According to police, Mr. Alicea was located in the Monmouth Mobile Home Park off Route 1.
Police said that Mr. Alicea said he surrendered to police because he “was scared and tired of running.”
The investigation identified the second suspect as Mr. Brown.
An investigation by Detective Dennis Yuhasz has identified Mr. Brown as being responsible for the theft of the 2011 Mercedes Benz on Friday Sept. 27 in the Monmouth Junction section.
Police said they later recovered the Mercedes in Trenton.
Crime scene processing of the vehicle recovered physical evidence that police say links Mr. Brown to the crime.
The investigation also discovered that Mr. Brown is allegedly connected with several motor vehicle thefts and burglaries in the central New Jersey.
The Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force joined the hunt in early October when it was learned that Mr. Brown had fled the area.
The task force followed several leads before capturing Mr. Brown early Oct. 28.
Mr. Brown is currently lodged in Bucks County Correctional Center awaiting extradition to New Jersey where he faces burglary and theft charges.
In a statement last month, Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka credited good police work and community partnership with success in recent cases.
”Our success in South Brunswick is directly related to our partnership with the community. Residents providing information is crucial to any police department’s success”, said Chief Hayducka.
