Work completed on I-287 north in Edison

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) completed work Nov. 23 on the northbound right lane on the Interstate 287 overpass over Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor tracks in Edison, according to DOT officials. The unplanned lane closure had caused traffic delays on the heavily traveled section of I-287.

A scheduled DOT inspection of the overpass on Nov. 20 found that an outer beam of the overpass in the northbound direction had weakened due to exposure. To ensure the safety of motorists, the DOT prohibited travel on one of the three northbound lanes until repairs were completed.

Evaluation crews were mobilized to assess the structure and determine what repairs were required.

Motorists are encouraged to check the DOT’s traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for real-time travel information.
