AREA: Businesses can ask about health reform

Raritan Valley Community College to host forum Dec. 12

The Small Business Development Center at Raritan Valley Community College will present a free public seminar, “Healthcare Reform: What Every Small Business Needs to Know,” from 8-11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the conference center at the college’s campus at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg.
Implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, has led to many questions for employers. Some of the questions to be addressed at the seminar include:
   — What is “healthcare reform” and how will it affect me and my business?
   — What are my tax reporting requirements?
   — How do I accurately count and classify my employees? Will I be subject to penalties, and how can I avoid them?
   — What is the small business tax credit, am I eligible, and how can I claim it?
   — What is the new 3.8% net investment income tax and what are its implications on me and my business?
   — What changes can I expect in 2014?
The seminar will offer practical applications and planning strategies. Participants are encouraged to bring questions for the panel. Speakers will include: Andrew Ross, CPA, a tax manager at Bedard, Kurowicki & Co., CPAs PC; and Perry Koplik, principal of Preferred Financial Partner.
CPAs will receive 3.0 hours of continuing professional education credit.
Early registration is recommended. To register, contact the SBDC at 908-526-1200, ext. 8516 or [email protected]. The SBDC office is located at RVCC @ Bridgewater, 14 Vogt Drive, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
