Freehold woman charged with DWI

MANALAPAN — A resident of Freehold was charged with driving while intoxicated following her involvement in a motor vehicle accident in Manalapan on the evening of Nov. 20.

Police said officers responded to Route 9 south near the Towne Pointe shopping center at 10:27 p.m. for a report of a serious motor vehicle accident.

Witnesses told police a car traveling south on Route 9 hit the rear of an NJ Transit bus that was stopped on the shoulder of the highway at a bus stop, unloading and loading passengers.

The officers cared for the injured driver of the car and directed traffic around the accident scene.

The driver of the car, later identified as Dawnmarie Sims, 45, of Freehold, refused medical attention, according to police.

Sims was arrested at the scene and transported to Manalapan police headquarters for processing.

In connection with the motor vehicle accident, Sims was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane and driving with a suspended license.

Police said Sims was found to have two outstanding warrants — one from Manalapan municipal court for $750 and one from Freehold Township municipal court for $500. Sims posted bail for the two warrants.

Patrolman William Dutton was the arresting officer. The case is pending court.
