Simply ‘Brilliant’


 Mya Breitbart, a graduate of South Brunswick High School, was recently honored as one of the Brilliant 10 by Popular Science magazine for her work in mapping the genomes of an entire ecosystem at once. As a Girl Scout, Breitbart traveled to Malaysia to study water, North Carolina to study sea turtle nesting and the Great Lakes to study marine biology, all before the age of 18. Following the completion of her Girl Scout Gold Award, she enrolled at the Florida Institute of Technology to study marine biology. She followed this degree with a doctorate of cellular and molecular biology from San Diego State University before becoming a professor at the University of South Florida.
